GC Labs recently announced that it held the Capacity Building Workshop during the Project Launch Field Study for the Consulting Project of ‘the Project on Capacity Building for Screening Of Cervical Cancer and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) in the Republic of Uzbekistan’ (shortened as Uzbekistan HPV Screening Test Capacity Building Consulting Project from now on) entrusted by the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH) on February 7th, 2023.
To strengthen the capacity of health sector in partner countries, GC Labs is striving to expand its international cooperation activities by actively promoting Official Development Assistance (ODA) projects in partner countries such taking a role as a training institution for 'Dr LEE Jong-wook Fellowship Program' in 2021 and 2022 continuously. Uzbekistan HPV Screening Test Capacity Building Consulting Project is part of KOFIH’s ‘Healthcare Assistance for Partner Countries’. The project aims to support HPV screening, research and policymaking to achieve aiding early diagnosis and prevention of cervical cancer, the second highest prevalent of female cancer in Uzbekistan. During the Project Launch Field Study, the GC Labs team interviewed Deputy Health Minister of Uzbekistan and stakeholders from Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health Service (SES) and other related institutions, and visited the Scientific Research Institute of Virology (RIV) and district polyclinics to provide consultation on HPV diagnostic tests and policymaking.
The workshop's objective was to build capacity on HPV screening tests and support policy formulation for doctors from RIV and Republican Specialized Scientific-Practical Medical Center of Obstetrics and Gynecology (RSSPMCOG). RIV's Dr. Iroda Sharipova, the project coordinator, shared the status of ‘the Project on Capacity Building for Screening of Cervical Cancer and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) in the Republic of Uzbekistan’ up till 2022. And GC Labs specialists presented on topics like Current Status and Implications of Cervical Cancer and HPV Prevalence in Korea, Global Strategy for Cervical Cancer Elimination', and Quality Control of HPV genotyping and Cell Pathology, etc.
Ms. Heeun Kim, KOFIH Uzbekistan Country Representative, remarked during the Opening Speech, "KOFIH is looking forward to work with GC Laboratories, Korea's leading clinical laboratory, to collaborate with RIV by sharing Korea's Cervical Cancer diagnostics experience and expertise and we hope for a successful workshop." and "Thank you for covering HPV diagnostic tests' Quality Control, which is an important part of the diagnostic tests capacity building, in this workshop" commented Prof. Erkin I. Musabayev, Director of RIV, and expressed his ambition with his comment, "The field of cervical cancer is in the beginning stage in Uzbekistan, and we will try to overcome cervical cancer like Korea".
